Elvis Headlines V2001
Well, almost. Texas ended their headlining set on V2001's Chelmsford main stage with a tribute to the King, which prompted a massive karaoke session amongst the thousands of wet but happy punters. Earlier Sharleen Spiteri had promised the crowd a party and even managed to temporarily halt the monsoon-like rain conditions with a set packed with hits. The band came back on stage for their encore with Spiteri clad in her Elvis-inspired leather outfit, as designed by Tom Ford for Gucci and sported in the Vegas-style video for recent hit Inner Smile, which is exactly what they played, complete with pelvic thrusts and karate chops from the Queen, Sharleen.
After a stunning performance she announced, 'Well, with me dressed like this there's only one more song we can perform for our final track. I think we inspired his recent return to the charts and I've got a feeling he's looking down on us all now, so this one's for Elvis.' The band then launched into the ultimate classic Suspicious Minds crowning off one of the spunkiest shows of the weekend yet.
