T in the Park Kinross, Scotland - 8 July 2001

Texas. What can I say? I travelled 400 miles to see them after missing the whole of the Greatest Hits Tour, and they did not disappoint.
We were tired after 2 nights of no sleep, covered in mud, and battle weary from jostling for position in the moshpit, but we were determined to get as near to the front as possible. It was quite a mixture of people up there, with the die-hard Texas fans squeezing in with the seasoned festival goers who were happy to jump around the front whoever was playing on stage.
They got a fantastic reception when they came on stage and quickly blasted through IDWAL, Black Eyed Boy and Halo. The running order after that is a bit of blur (must have been the blow to the head & shoulder I got from the crowd surfer!), but they played many of the songs from the GH Tour (Guitar Song, In Our Lifetime, WWAT, Summer Son)
Sharleen was wearing her red rasta hat and yellow adidas top and Ally was looking mighty fine with his little goaty beard! As usual Shar had a good chat with audience and said how much she enjoyed watching Coldplay.
Highlights of note would include Tired of Being Alone going into It Wasn’t Me (the Shaggy song). The crowd enjoyed singing along to that one!
Shar pulled out three Scottish lads to do the sexy dancing competition to Pull Up To The Bumper. She was amused that two of them were both called Bob, and she joined in with the audience in singing a couple of choruses of Bob The Builder!! Of course, Sharleen won the dance competition – I think she is beginning to enjoy this “dirty dancing” thing far too much!!
Mark One stayed on stage with Sharleen to do an acoustic version of In Demand, which was brilliant! You could hear the crowd singing along really well!
They finished with the usual SWYW, and came back to do a rocking performance of Inner Smile and Suspicious Minds – the whole 70,000 crowd were jumping around at this point! The lads behind me were particularly impressed with the leather-clad Sharleen – they had been shouting for her to get her top off for most of the set!
As they were leaving the stage Sharleen said that they wouldn’t be around for a while, but THEY WOULD BE BACK! Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later.
As for me, I got home with an interesting collection of bruises on my shoulder in the shape of a boot heel (from the crowd surfer mentioned earlier) and an uncomfortable eye infection (from mud being flung in my face) but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!
Roll on V2001!
