Texas back on form

by Rosie McIntosh for The Herald - 2 August 2005

TEXAS celebrated their first single in three years yesterday with a whistle-stop mini tour of three Scottish cities.
The band, fronted by Sharleen Spiteri, performed their new single, Getaway, at Virgin megastores in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The hundreds of fans who turned out to see them were also treated to two live performances of the band's most famous hits, Black Eyed Boy and Say What You Want, while in Glasgow, their home town, they also played a fourth number, I Don't Want A Lover.
Texas have been out of the limelight for some time as Spiteri focused her energies on her daughter Mysty Kyd, now aged two.
The band have, however, popped up regularly at benefit gigs and one-off shows in Scotland throughout this year, including at last month's Live8 concert in Edinburgh. Their last album, Careful What You Wish For, released in 2003, received a mixed response from critics and fans.
Fans yesterday said the band, which was formed in 1986, was sounding as good as ever.
Among them were Alison Cornish, 27, from Oxford, who flew north with her friend, Teresa Horsnell, 29, from Reading, for the Glasgow and Edinburgh gigs.
Ms Cornish said: "We have toured all over Europe with Texas. What I like most about them is that they are good people who make good music. The fans are also really lovely."
Getaway is taken from Red Book, the band's sixth studio album, which will be released on October 31. Texas are also planning a UK tour, with the first two nights at the Carling Academy in Glasgow on September 29 and 30.
