Sharleen nicks Robbie's hitmaker
from the Sunday Mail - 17 August 2003
SHARLEEN SPITERI has nicked the man who helped make Robbie Williams a superstar.
She has written a batch of songs with Guy Chambers - who co-wrote Robbie hits Angels and Let Me Entertain You - for the new Texas album.
One song - I'll See Through - is earmarked as a possible Christmas single.
The Scots rock band are making a comeback with a new album Careful What You Wish For.
It's their first studio set since a greatest hits package in 2000, which sold five million copies.
On October 6, Texas release new single Carnival Girl, which features guest vocals by Canadian rap star Kardinal Offishal.
Sharleen said: "The record doesn't sound like any other UK band out there. We don't want to make carbon copy music."
Key tracks were co-written with Guy - who had a massive bust-up with Robbie over cash.
A music insider said: "Sharleen has picked a winner. Guy is absolutely brilliant.
"He will give Texas a totally new dimension with his input into their songs. The word is that Guy and Sharleen work extremely well together. The band are very excited."
Sharleen will be quids in if Guy's magic formula rubs off... but so will Robbie.
He spent £1million filming a DVD of his recent three nights of open-air gigs at Knebworth, aimed at the Christmas market. Insiders claim it will be the "best ever" pop concert movie.
Robbie will also release new single Sexed Up and will begin working on a sixth studio album in early 2004. But he has abandoned plans to crack America. He should worry - his 15- date European tour generated a cash bonanza of £40million from ticket sales, TV rights and merchandising.
