Concert review
Q-music showcase, VMM studios, Vilvoorde, Belgium, 30 October 2003
by Mieke
2,5 Years after their last concert in Belgium, Texas is back with their brand new CD "Careful what you wish for", and we were there!
I heard Texas were coming to the VTM studios in Vilvoorde for an exclusive promo concert. First thing I thought was: I've got to be there!! It seemed tickets could only be won on the commercial radio station Q-music by sending text messages. Then the DJ had to pick yours and would call you with the good news. So I found a small radio that belonged to my brother and took it to work, determined not to miss a chance of winning tickets. Then, the second day of the competition, the DJ called someone, but he didn't pick up, then they called a second person but his mobile was switched off. Next thing, I saw my mobile ringing. All excited, I was almost not able to pick up my phone, I kept pushing the wrong button till I remembered how the phone worked, picked up and yelled: Q is good for you, ik wil naar Texas!
So then I had 2 weeks to figure out whom to take and I decided to ask Dirk. I knew he wanted to go (off course) and he had sent a lot of text messages as well but didn't win. He was really happy I asked him and sure, he wanted to come.
The day of the concert, I had to work till noon, then took off and drove to Antwerp where I was meeting Dirk and his 2 girls, Sofie and Eline, who he had won tickets for just the day before. The girls were really excited as well as it was their very first Texas concert. We then drove further to Vilvoorde where we arrived way to early, at 15h15.
So that meant we had to wait for another 5 hours. In the end though, the hours passed quite quickly. I met Kathy and Bea who also won tickets and who were there already. We gave a little interview for the radio and the television and because Kathy had brought a little radio, very clever, we could follow everything that was said about the arrival of the band. At 17h15 we saw two mini vans and a Mercedes arrive at the studios, they were finally there!
Sharleen was really friendly and took her time to hand out some autographs but they all had to get inside quickly for Sharleen had to give an interview on the radio. Again, we were lucky Kathy had brought her little radio so we could listen to the interview.
A little while later, the sun was setting, it was starting to cool down and more people were arriving. We had to shout “Wij willen naar Texas” one more time and then they let us in. We got into the studio and got ourselves a nice little place in front of Ally! At 20h45 the band came on stage and started playing Telephone X, which set the tone for the rest of the evening. The new songs are great, Broken, And I dream, Where Did You Sleep and Careful What You Wish For really rock and I’ll See It Trough made the whole studio fall silent, as did the new version of In Demand. From the old songs, the crowd especially liked Summer Son and off course Say What You Want, which is still a great way to end the show.
We got out exhausted from jumping up and down and went gratefully to the bar for some free drinks. We didn’t know when the band was about to leave so we went outside and waited there a little longer. We were almost deciding to leave when we saw the black Mercedes and we knew that Sharleen and Johnny must be in it. They stopped for a while for some autographs, but had to hurry because they had to get a ferry back home.
Once they were gone, we said our goodbyes and drove back to Antwerp.
I think we were really lucky to have Texas in Belgium for there promo tour and hopefully they will be back soon!
