A night to remember

“ Q is good for you … ik wil naar Texas” followed by a huge scream that’s how we earned our ticket to a long awaited start of what hopefully will be a great new Texas-adventure. All week long we were being reminded of that euphoric moment as the radiostation edited our scream into the ad for this competition. We were so excited to be amongst the happy few as we were very eager to see the band perform the new material from “Careful What You Wish for”. The concert also was a good opportunity to catch up with some old friends and to meet some newbies. Mieke, who we hadn’t met before, won a ticket and invited Dirk to join her. Now we had to find a way to earn a way in for his daughters Sofie and Eline. As it was a pure luck competition (no questions asked, just text the name Texas) chances were pretty dim. Fortunately Dirk managed to win those 2 extra tickets, two new Texas fans were in the making.

Two years after the “Greatest Hits Tour” ended at some muddy festival in England Texasmania set in again. We couldn’t get to the concert venue fast enough! We had ants in our pants! We set off way too early as usual. As soon as we arrived it seemed clear that not only we had been attacked by the ants. Dirk’s gang also turned up “only” 5 hours before the gig. Still there was no time to lose, plenty of things to do. Catch up with Dirk, get to know Mieke, Sofie and Eline, do some VIP spotting (we were at the studio’s of the biggest commercial TV station in Flanders), and of course give some radio and TV interviews (so that was our 5 minutes of fame).

We could hear over our little radio that Sharleen was going to give an interview at about 5.45pm, so all hands on deck to give the band a warm welcome. 5.15pm, The moment had arrived. How wonderful it was to see all of the band again. Still as friendly as ever, sharing a couple of words with the fans before setting off to the studio.

As the sun set it became quite cold waiting outside. More and more people started to arrive. We got the feeling this would become a night to remember as Sharleen told in her interview that she was very eager to get on stage!

7.15pm, doors opened at last. As we made our run towards the stage we noticed that some VIP’s had already taken the best spots. Luckily they were friendly enough to let us take a little space next to them.

Countdown had begun 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... “Telephone X” blasted through the speakers. In no time we were jumping and singing along as if our last Texas gig was only yesterday. That special feeling you get from seeing them live was back again, adrenaline was pumping through our veins. It’s obvious the band enjoyed being on stage again immensely. Sharleen was being her own self again joking and making fun of the boys. To us it seems clear that some of the new songs like “Broken”, “Where Did You Sleep”, “And I Dream” and “Telephone X” will be as succesful as “Summer Son”, “Black Eyed Boy”, “Halo”,... at the live gigs. As much as these songs got the crowd jumping about, “I’ll See It Through” and the accoustic piano version of “In Demand” moved everyone with emotion.

With good old “Say What You Want” the end was near so one more time we gave the best of ourselves to thank Texas for a brilliant showcase.

After all the jumping and dancing Q-music shouted us free drinks. They were very welcome! Now it was time for the “après-Texas” gathering. Every single one of us was on cloud nine. It had been a memorable night. We felt very privileged to have been there. Tastes like more so ROLL ON THE NEW TOUR!
