Concert review
Night of the Proms, Antwerp, Belgium - 25 October 2006

by Victoria

Just had to say that we headed over to Antwerp from England to catch the Night of the Proms.- After having caught Texas at Brighton and Arundel we couldnt miss out on one last opportunity this year to witness the gorgeous Sharleen in action again.

We could tell that we were in for quite a long evening so decided early on that our strategy this time would be to take in the atmosphere and enjoy frequenting the bar (located along the side of the auditiorium down quite a steep dip) rather than spend the evening at the front- besides which we didnt think our bladders would hold out til Sharleen came on after all that champagne! I should point out that I had read on my favourite web site (this one) that Sharleen makes a surprise appearance early on from the back- but had also gathered that they changed this the following night. Anyway, we saw a bit of Ike Turner(not that bit!), John Miles and Tears for Fears and decided to have a quick wee. As we approached the toilet we heard the voice of our Sharleen coming from nowhere. We did a U turn and legged it back to the mainstage, looking for Sharleen.- It was then that we realised that she was at the back- singing 'Put Your Loving Arms Around Me'. It was like the crowds at the front were unaware that she was behind them, like they thought it was a pre-recording. Because everyone was focussed on the front it was quite easy to get a good view. The great thing was that the auditorium emptied during the break so it was quite easy to get near the front for Sharleen's return. (This might be a handy tip for anyone who hasnt had the pleasure of the Proms yet).

As ever Sharleen lit up the whole place. It felt like people who might not normally have considered watching Texas in concert were blown away by the strength of her voice and her phenomenal stage presence.- Even with the language issues she managed to get the crowds going big time.- The Belgians obviously loved her too! I have never seen any other groups more than a couple of times, much less travelled to another country but this was worth every second. We are just hoping now that the new material Texas are recording in Antwerp might lead to another tour soon??? WE CANT WAIT!!!!
