Concert review
MEN Arena, Manchester - 12 May 2006

by Nicolac23

MEN Arena was the venue. Managed to get block B tickets about 10 rows from the front. The lights dimmed and the intro to 036 then Ally's guitar intro started to I dont want a lover. The crowd went wild and the lights came up and Sharleen appeared. Can't remember the actual order of songs but it was a great set list. Getaway, Can't resist, Black eyed boy, Halo, What about us, In demand, Summer son, Inner smile, In our lifetime, When we are together, Put your arms around me. Sharleen and Ally did an acoustic version of Gnarls Barkleys song Crazy which was amazing.

Sharleen began to take the micky out of poor Michael about a remark he made about I think it was that Elton john being a better piano player than David Bowie. So she asked the audience what they thought. Michael played an Elton song "Your song" and Eddie played a Bowie song "Changes". The crowd decided by the loudest cheer that David Bowie was the better player. The night before Michael won the vote.
The current score is Eddie 1 and Michael 1. Lets keep a regular check on this to see who is the overall winner at the end of the tour. My money is on Eddie. Bowie is the better man.
Sharleen made a jokey remark to Michael that he played the same song the night before at Glasgow and he could of played a classic like the circle of life.

The rest of the guys from Texas left Sharleen on stage and she did a solo acoustic version of So called friend. She was chattin to the crowd and a guy called out for her to get on with it. Big mistake on his part she asked him if he knew what song she was starting to play which he didnt so she took the piss out of him in true classic Spiteri style. An hilarious moment. She then did Put your arms around me. I felt the hairs go up and the back of my neck. Brilliant heart touching moment such a passionate performance.

For the encore the lights again dimmed and a voice was heard to say "Is it on" My friends and I ,hailing from Manchester instantly began to chant "Peter Kay Peter Kay". Some movement could be seen in the dark as the band came back out on stage then the lights came up and Sharleen and Peter ventured out to huge cheers and rapturous applause. It was of course Sleep they were performing in the costumes they wore in the video. Sharleen in naval uniform and Peter as Mark Park in that purple suit. Sleep was performed twice. Sharleen fell about laughing during the first performance as Peter was just hilarious. He actually sang the male parts to sleep. At one point he called Sharleen " what you doin now your a fucking amateur " in a joking way. Sharleen replied laughing hysterically" I knew this wasnt a good idea ".

The final song was Say what you want. I really hate the last song because it means the end of a trully memorable fantastic evening. I wanted it to last forever. Sharleen had the boys against the girls singing competition. Peter was called back on stage to coach the boys but the girls had it all sewn up an easy victory. Then it was over the band and Peter Kay said there thank yous and goodbyes and bowed out and left the stage to a huge applause, cheers and whistles.

This was the best Texas gig I have been to so far. Words actually fail me. It was a spectacular hilarious show. A night I will never forget. Thanks again to Texas.

Congratulations on 20 years together you might not had believed Sharleen, that you would be still here filling arenas after all these years but im sure you fans knew you would.Heres to the next 20 years.
