The Forum, London - 14 October 2005

by Sarah

My fourth Texas concert in ten years, and I drove to the gig with in trepidation.
I was worried that it might be my last time. On occasions I have gone to see a band and been disappointed as they have played new songs, re worked old songs beyond recognition, or the sound has been off.
A standing gig was great when I was 21 but I was worried about being pushed and not getting a decent view. I began to wonder if at 42 going to a gig was not for me being such a moan and sounding like my own 70 year old parents!!.

Needless to say the first 8 bars of Summer Son melted my fears instantly. Sharleen and Co restored my faith in live gigs in thirty seconds. The Forum was fantastic, so nice to have such a small intimate venue. The view perfect- how did she loose her pregnancy weight so soon?? The sound was spot on, the crowd friendly and the music better than ever.

With her high energy, perfect diction and broad Scottish accent Sharleen spellbindingly creates a rapport, she flows with fans, hecklers gently but firmly rebuffed. Sharleen seems to bring out the best in a crowd; corny as it sounds she turns us all into family.

Texas has that formula and sustains it well, from start to finish we wanted more and more. They play great music with variety, teasing the audience with new material but still performing hit after hit. Texas just melts in the ears like liquid gold flowing into my blood, I felt smug, couldn’t argue with my 13 year old about real bands, who really sing and do time after time. I would have stood for another three hours, not one audience member wanted it end.

First thing when I got home after the gig, before the cocoa and slippers straight to the computer to check out the possibility of the next gig!!!

Long may Sharleen and Texas last, certainly so I can take my daughter and prove that the longstanding bands are the very best and will go the distance.

So where and when can I catch them next?
