The Forum, London - 14 October 2005

by Debbie

The last time I saw Texas play was at Wembley 2001 which I found too overwhelmingly huge and impersonal, so the choice of venue this time was surprisingly better- It felt like being part of an old school or college reunion- I was almost expecting to bump into old teachers and friends! Unfortunately it was just my reluctant(but almost keen?!) husband who I had brought along to enjoy the evening with me. Despite only just about managing to get "standing" only tickets we managed to get a respectable view of the stage and band despite a lot of activity from the nearside bars.

The crowd were noisy and in great anticipation of Texas taking to the stage- After a long and patient wait sounds were finally heard from the stage-opening with dialogue from the movie Paris Texas .Moments later Sharleen and the boys were visible- Sharleen sporting an impressive hat on her head!"I don't want a lover" was then blasted out which immediately got the crowd going.

This was followed by Halo and the impending new single "Can't Resist" which was quite hypnotic in overtone. Sharleen took to the piano and sang "what about us" Dallas- It was the first time that I had heard this track and it took my breath away. On the other hand I was slighty disappointed with the choice of "In Demand" .I know it was a big hit but would have prefered something else from their White on Blonde era.

Sharleen provided her usual banter with the audience which included an introduction to the latest new member of Texas- Michael on Keyboards who appeared shy and baby faced- Sharleen adding the fact that he is "Just a wee baby at 22!" (or was it 23?!).

Paul Buchanan from the Band The Blue Nile came on towards the end of the evening and dueted with Sharleen- vocals in complete harmony.

The encore involved Sharleen asking the crowd if they liked Bob Dylan- she then treated us to her version of "Like a Rolling Stone" which was superb. Then another final encore of predictably "Say what you want" before an emotional farewell from the band and the show was over.
