Concert review
Live8 closing concert, Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, 6 July 2005
by Bill Matthews
I was lucky enough to get to Murrayfield last night and thought you'd like a quick review as I'm not sure how much (if any)
of the Texas performance made it to TV. The band, unlike many other acts, got to do two songs, and they kicked off with
a rousing, singalong version of Inner Smile. Second song was Say What You Want, which was also enthusiastically
sungalong with by the crowd as well. Sharleen looked and sounded great, though the front of house sound wasn't good -
I could just about hear Ally's guitar but only because I was at the side of the stage. The whole band were there, including
the new keyboard player, and I haven't seen Johnny looking so happy for a very long time (he was bouncing). It looked
to me like Guy Chambers was playing along with them on piano as well - he had just accompanied Beverly Knight in a
beautiful version of angels. Good performance all round, and the audience reacted very well ...
Lots of great stuff all evening, a great event. Youssou n'Dour and Neneh Cheery doing 'Seven Seconds' was great, Snow
Patrol were superb, Travis really had the crowd going (Why Does it Always Rain on Me is such a singalong number).
The Corrs sounded and looked great, Annie Lennox looked so proud to see Scotland participate, and Wet Wet Wet also
got a huge crowd response. James Brown, the closing act, was just brilliant too ...
