Concert review
King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow, 14 July 2005

by Mailla

July 14th, today it’s the French National Day but I have to confess I won’t be with my compatriots because I found something more entertaining to do... For the first time of my life I’m going to see Texas live in Glasgow. I’ve been waiting for this day for years !

I had a walk in Glasgow the whole afternoon but at 6pm I couln’t wait anymore so I decided to go to the King Tuts and have a drink there. It was written with chalk on the door of the pub: TONIGHT TEXAS. I am not dreaming this is really gonna happen !!!

While I was drinking and chatting with my friend we could hear Texas upstairs doing the last repetition, this just made me even more excited than I already was (if that’s possible !!). They finally opened the door to the concert venue just a few minutes after my last two friends have arrived. We entered beyond the first guests and we went directly at the first row in front of Ally... as usual !! The venue is so small, I can’t believe it. The stage is all tiny, I wondered how they all will fit on it. To make time goes faster we remembered the past Texas concerts we did and we also speculated on the forthcoming one.

About 9h30, lights and music went down and the audience started to welcome the awaited famous Glaswiegean band : Texas!! Eddie, Michael, Neal and Sharleen came up on stage and opened the gig with a new song : "Dallas". It was so good to see them on stage again. After that, the guys Ally, Johnny and Tony joined the rest of the band for "Can’t Resist", a new punchy song. They played new and old good tunes like "Black Eyed Boy", "Summer Son", "Inner Smile" and of course my all time favorite "Halo", which drove me crazy... as usual !! At one moment, Sharleen joined Eddie back behind the keyboards and she made fun of Ally by telling that for once he could go in the middle of the stage ! He was all shy, didn’t really know where do go or what to do. So finally he took a sit on the amplifier. So Sharleen and Eddie offered us a new song called "Nevermind". To be frank I didn’t like it that much at the concert, but now I listenned to it again, I’ve changed my mind. I think it is great. Later, Sharleen invited on stage Paul Bucchanan for a duet on a new song called “Sleep”. I’ve been totally charmed by this song and by... Paul ! So did Sharleen, I’m sure! The band finished its set with the new single Getaway and the audience already knew the lyrics. For sure, it’s gonna be a hit ! They left the stage but ...hey, we’re not stupid ! They didn’t play a song !!! Of course they came back and set on fire the King Tut’s with the unforgetable live version of "Say What You Want".

It was all done by now. We were totally amazed, Sharleen and the guys are still very pleasant, funny and very comfortable on stage. It’s always such a pleasure to see them. So to recover from our emotions we went for a drink at the bar and the band was also here. By accident, I unfortunately... kicked Micheal. So if you read this Micheal, I’m so sorry again...but it was a pleasure to meet you ! We also had little chats with Johnny, Ally and Eddie (who’s so funny !!!).

It was definitely the best French National Day I’ve ever had !!!
