Concert review
Carling Academy, Glasgow, 30 September 2005

I first saw Texas (live) in 2001 on the "Greatest Hits" tour in Newcastle as Glasgow was sold out. I thought the Carling Academy was a more intimate venue and personally I think the concert was better because of this. It was as though it was a private performance. I have been to bigger concerts in stadia and they weren't as enjoyable as this one was - probably because of the size of venue and the atmosphere this then created.

The set was a mix of old and new with familiar favourites sounding timeless and as fresh as they did originally.

Sharleen sounds just as good, if not better than she always has as she soared to all the high notes and effortlessly held on to the "ye-yeaaah" of Inner Smile, comfortably backed up as ever by "the boys".

The Glasgow crowd were ecstatic when she said they would just stay there for the whole tour.

There was champagne and rapturous applause for drummer Neil when the birth of his son, Michael was announced.

I didn't enjoy the cover of Dylan's Rolling Stone but it seemed to go down well with most and "Sleep" with Paul needs further listening.

All in all a brilliant performace from a band whose return has been long overdue. If Texas had wanted to stay there all week, I am sure the crowd would have ordered food to ensure they stayed!!

Hopefully I won't have to wait another 4 years to see them live again.
