Sharleen and boys a class act at packed Academy

TEXAS put their private lives on hold last night - to the delight of thousands of fans at Glasgow's Carling Academy - in the first of two sell-out gigs in their home city.

Sharleen Spiteri told the crowd that drummer Neil Payne's girlfriend had just gone into labour.

Vocalist Sharleen has also had other things on her mind recently after it was confirmed that she and partner Ashley Heath, dad to their three-year-old daughter Misty Kyd, had split.

However, it was clear the singer was relaxed and happy to be back in her home city as she exchanged banter with the fans.

Kicking the evening off with I Don't Want A Lover before launching in to a set full of hit singles and classic Texas tunes, the outfit put their heart and soul into their performance.

Halo, Black Eyed Boy, Carnival Girl, Summer Sun and In Demand all went down a storm with the crowd which, as Sharleen said, comprised mainly female followers.

Songs from the latest album Red Book, such as Get Down Tonight, top 10 hit Getaway and the latest single Can't Resist had the audience jumping.

Blue Nile legend Paul Buchanan joined the singer for the encore as she took to the piano before they breezed through a duet of the Bob Dylan classic Like A Rolling Stone.

Fans lapped up the set - though, in their push to see their heroes, some had to be dragged from the front row and given medical attention.
