by Wendy Well, back in Glasgow after an amazing weekend… thanks again to Texas!!! After a drizzly start to the morning on Sunday the day brightened into sunshine and the bands began to come on stage (variety of acts - 5 in total including Texas). This ‘should’ be a review about Texas, but I have to give one of the other bands a mention as well, as it was the 1st time I had seen them live, and to be honest they totally blew me away… The Pretenders were the last act to perform before Texas. I have a couple of their albums, but I’d never seen them live and wasn’t sure what to expect I’d always thought Chrissie Hynde was pretty cool, but never really got behind the music and what it was about. So they came on stage…. And I can honestly say they took my breath away. I have never been in awe of anyone like that… I can totally see why Shar has been influenced by this lady…. such stage presence and talent. Every move, every hook… hard to describe, but absolutely inspiring! She plays guitar like a man (know that is a strange thing to say, but she was amazing!) Total rock chic the old school way with the most powerful voice, and if anyone hasn’t been to see them, please look out for concerts you won’t be disappointed! – I just couldn’t help but smile the entire way through the set as it was just so good….! So thanks also to the Pretenders for making it a great day…. And so on to Texas, after the Pretenders I was a bit worried the crowd wouldn’t rally behind the guys following on from such a good set…. But Shar rose to the challenge, and perhaps the fact that they were supported by such legends upped the game plan to go the extra mile During the intro for IDWAL I managed to cut both my hands on the front barrier, no idea how, but tissues to the rescue and on we bounced! The crowd were up for it and the guys played a great set with all the old favourites…. The usual suspects were down on the front row which always makes for a good night. Eddie and Michael had their competition with Michael winning (go Michael!) was unsure which way it would go as there were a lot of boos when Shar said Michael would do an Elton John no. but always a laugh… Me being me… I can’t remember the whole set list, but there was IDWAL, Getaway, Halo, BEB, in Demand, Nevermind, sleep, Summerson, SWYW, with can’t resist being omitted at last minute… I thought they also did When we are together, but I’m not sure as I’m tired and may just have been listening to it on route home…! Anyway another great night, role on Nimes….and thanks guys! |
