Concert review
Arena, Cardiff, Wales - 13 May 2006

from the South Wales Echo, by Ali Stokes

If ever there was proof needed that good solid adult pop never goes out of fashion undefined Texas is it.

There was a sell-out crowd waiting when the Glaswegian band took to the stage for their first live Cardiff show in six years.

As frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri strode out in her red military jacket and black boots for a kick-ass version of I Don't want A lover, you knew they meant business.

Three nights into their current tour and the band were on top form belting out older hits like Sharleen's solo acoustic version of So-Called Friend with tracks from the current album Red Book.

As a performer, Sharleen Spiteri is still a striking stage presence but she's also down-to-earth, joking and flirting with the audience and the other band members.

Not only did she look good, she sounded great too, displaying the depth of soul in her voice on Tired of Being Alone and a cover of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy.

And just when the audience thought they'd seen everything Sharleen quickly changed into her Officer and a Gentleman uniform for Sleep before ending on an explosive encore of Say What You Want.

Which just goes to show the middle of the road needn't be dull.
