by Ian Wall Having attended a few Texas concerts before, I was aware of how good Sharleen was live and I was personally looking forward to hearing tracks from the excellent album Melody. I was however taking a friend who wasn’t that familiar with Texas or Sharleen, I’ll leave his feedback until the end… I can’t write a review of this show without a mention for Kizzy Star, from the opening chord to there final song, I very impressed and can’t wait to download their album once released. Then came Sharleen… Looking stunning in black, she opened the set with the very soothing Francoise from Melody before bringing the audience to their feet with It Was You. Most of us were aware that Sharleen had to cancel her previous show in Brighton due to illness and prayed that Sharleen would be able to keep up her usual high standards throughout the set, shame on us for doubting her! We were rewarded with an amazing set that included most of the tracks from Melody with a little bit of Texas, Black Eyed Boy, Summer Son and Halo to name but a few. Sharleen also got to enjoy covering some of her own favorites with These Boots Were Made For Walking and River Deep bringing a big smile to Sharleen’s face. If I dare write something negative about the night, it would be for the lady from Glasgow who insisted on trying to talk to Sharleen and interrupting Sharleen flow on several occasions. The odd comment is funny, repeating it is sad! (Sorry for little moan). That said the audience were treated to an evening of a great sound from the band, an amazing voice from Sharleen and the chance to let the rhythm take hold. Highlights for me were: Being front row! Day Tripping; I Wonder and Stop, however if I’m being honest the entire show was just ‘Amazing’ . I would love to give the show 10/10 however I believe 11/10 says more ; ) And finally what did my friend make of the evening? His final comment was through a big smile was: ‘I didn’t realize she was that good!’ Well he does now. Come back soon Sharleen. Ian Wall |
