Concert review
Telewest Arena, Newcastle, UK - 5 February 2001
by Malcolm Morgan
I have just got in from what was the BEST Texas concert I have ever
seen!! There were a few things that were different from any other
Texas concert:
1) Backing Singers
2) A different drummer from Mykey (he was called Steve)
I managed to get 5 rows from the front. The concert started with a
net dropping infront of the stage in the dark and then images of a
whirlpool were projected on to it. Eventually the net dropped and
the band were seen. The first track they sang was "In Demand".
Sharleen wore jean style trousers and a greeny blue chinese styled
top.
She followed it with (trying to remember): "Black Eyed Boy"
and "Halo".
The audience joked with Sharleen and Sharleen joked with the
audience. So much to the point, that she got someone up from the
audience to embarrass him for shouting "you're gorgeous"
More of the tracks I remember (in no particular order) are: "Put
You're Arms Around Me", "I Don't Want A Lover", "Summer Son", "In Our
Lifetime", "Guitar Song", Prayer For You", When We Are
Together", "Insane", "Tired Of Being Alone".
Sharleen and the boys did 2 encores. The first conisting of "Inner
Smile" and "Suspicious Minds" (Shar's little tribute to Elvis). And
yes, the TEXAS name in lights as used in the Inner Smile video was
used only from this encore to the end.
The second encore consisted of an amazing version of "Say What You
Want" in which Sharleen had the audience singing along and mixed over
the top of what we were singing.
As for the lighting - what can I say??? It was amazing. The best
lighting I have seen in a concert for a while. Columns at the back
of the stage that lit up different colours, numerous curtains that
kept on changing throught the show and strip lighting that came down
form above.
Sharleen and co have done it again. Another brilliant concert by one
of the UK's most brilliant bands. The atmosphere on the floor was
electric and Sharleen showed her apreciation by playing to us.
I did manage to get my digi cam in, so I will upload the photos now.
Everyone who is going to this show will find it FANTASTIC. I'll be
back at the Arena this week for a ticket for 12th April for def.
