Concert review
Telewest Arena, Newcastle, UK - 5 February 2001
from The Evening Chronicle by Gordon Barr
EVERY once in a while a gig comes along and hits you in the face with the power of a tidal wave.
Gigs such as Texas, who last night gave a command performance to rate as one of the best there has been at the Telewest Arena.
No-one could have been disappointed - lead singer Sharleen Spiteri has the voice of an angel - albeit a rocking and rolling angel - and any first-night nerves for her band's tour were quickly quashed by the ecstatic reception form the crowd.
From In Demand, though to the more uptempo Black Eyed Boy and Halo, to dazzling acoustic versions of Put Your Arms Around Me and Prayer For You, this was sheer class from start to finish.
Sharleen teased the audience, cracked jokes - and even had one lad from the audience, who had caught her attention, on stage dancing and singing.
"She's the best in the world," the lad named Paul told the audience. More than 10,000 fans couldn't have agreed more.
This was a gig that was simply faultless. Get those tickets booked now for April!
