Interview Capital FM

from Radio Capital FM London - 24 August 2003

Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri is back after a bit of a break from the music scene. She tells us about her new single, coping with motherhood, and what it's like being one of the world's most beautiful women...

You've been away and now you're back ,how does it feel to be back on the circuit?

It's very surreal. You spend that much time in the studio making a record and its very intimate and everything is geared to putting out the record and then suddenly it's coming out and reality just hits.

You' re a mummy now. Is it easy juggling being a mum with your rock n roll lifestyle?
Yeah really easy, to be honest. I'm not like most working mums and I don't think I can call myself a working mum. I basically do what I want when I want, so that's how it works . I've been very lucky - my sister was basically back at work, three days a week straight away after maternity leave and she was sitting crying on the bus on her way to work.

Are you going to be doing what some of these showbiz couples do and cart your little girl around with you to gigs?
I take her to the studio but not so much now as she is running around and touches anything that is flashing, so she's banned now, but I will definitely take her on tour with me until she goes to school.

Now you're known as one of the world's natural beauties...do you ever really feel like going out getting glammed up rock n roll style to surprise a few people?
I think I've had my glam moments as in dressing up in high heels, but I never do the big make up thing because it slids off my face after 20 minutes, plus I'm always touching my face and I end u with panda eyes and its not a good look. But I've done some glam photos and things.

Your lips could give Angelina a run for her money
I have got a right big gob but I'm quite happy with that!

Now Texas have been around for a long long time, is there anything else you still feel you haven't achieved and want to do?
I think there's always things you still want to do and achieve and if there wasn't, whats the point of being here if you feel you haven't anywhere to go.....Yeah there's lots of things I'd like to work towards. I'm not one for talking about what I want to do because, its a disappointment for myself if it doesn't happen so lets just see what happens in the future.

Tell us about the new single
It's called 'Carnival Girl' and is out 6 October.
