Flanders Expo, Gent, Belgium - 21 April 2001

21 April 2001 Saturday afternoon. I’m waiting for my friends to come to my place ‘cause we’re going to see Texas today!!
We were at Flanders Expo at 17.45 h. My mom thinks it’s very early but you all know it’s not. lol I think we got there just in time because at six it was already kind of crowded out there. They let us in at 18.30h and my friends, who didn’t knew Texas that well, wanted to sit down but off course I didn’t and eventually they went with me to the front. We were a couple of rows from the front which wasn’t so bad.
At eight Das Pop came onto the stage and it wasn’t really that bad but it’s not really my thing. They did have these annoying lights which blinded us and the singer was kind of funny doing exercises on the stage.
Then at 21.15h Zero Zero filled the hall and the curtain fell down. This was what we came for. Texas came on and started with “In demand”. Followed by “Black eyed Boy” which is one of my favourites especially at the end when Shar stops singing and the crowd just sings on. Shar told us she had a sore throat and she could lose her voice at any point so we really should enjoy it because she came especially for us. She also got some presents from fans I think it were chocolates and flowers and she said she likes coming to Gent because then she gets a lot of presents.
Shar also said that she almost didn’t get in Gent in time. She told us she went shopping in Antwerp and when they got back with there yellow tour bus the roads were blocked because everyone was on there way going to see Texas in Gent. I couldn’t really understand the entire story but they were somewhere and they were blocked by a car. So the tour manager got out and went to the woman in the car and asked: “can we please pass?”. The woman answered to that: “no, ‘cause I’m going to see Texas”. So the tour manager said to her: “if you won’t let us pass you won’t ‘cause then Texas won’t be there”.lol
She also told the taxi story and when the crowd wouldn’t believe it she told us that the girl in the “Dries van Noten” shop in Antwerp asked her if it was really her in the video.
Other songs were: “Halo”, “Guitar Song”, “In Our Lifetime”, “Insane” with Shar behind the piano at the end, “Tired Of Being Alone” with “Waterfalls” mixed in it and Shar behind the piano.
Then it was time to pick a guy out of the audience. She picked one and the girls were asking to pick a girl. So she explained to them why she always takes a guy. She said: “it’s not about me getting a guy that I fancy on the stage but I take guys because they do things girls wouldn’t do like whistle to me and I picked this guy because he put out his tongue when I looked at him”. And the guy, who’s name was Erwin, went “no, I didn’t do that”. So Shar said “Are you going to call me a liar in front of 12.000 people?”. But he didn’t dare doing that so he admitted. She took him to Charlotte and Nicole and asked him “Do you like them?” but he didn’t understand her and then she said: “The first guy in history who’s asked ‘do you like these girls’ and says ‘I don’t understand’”.lol Then they started dancing to “Pull up to the bumper” but this guy had his hands really everywhere and Shar is busy keeping his hands away. At one point, the guy is standing behind her with his hands on her belly but he’s trying to get higher and Shar is trying to keep him away and laughing so she couldn’t sing anymore. And then Charlotte and Nicole can play with him which is always very funny ‘cause then the guy doesn’t know what to do with two girls around him. Then he goes of the stage with the words “Thank you Gent!”.
Next up are “So in love with you” in the fabulous acoustic version, “Prayer for you” with Ally on the guitar where he broke a string for the third time this tour. Shar showed us his pants which he had washed but you could still see Texas on it though Shar said she was worried about the X. Ally also had a haircut if you can call it that. lol
This was followed by “I don’t want a lover” always a fantastic crowd pleaser and “When we are together”. After that someone brought Shar’s guitar and we knew it was almost over now but Shar said she would come back if we went really mad and this would be a little warm up, it was “Summer Son”. They got of the stage and the crowd just kept cheering, it was really loud. They came back with Shar in her Elvis outfit and with “Inner Smile” which everybody loves and after the song people kept shouting “yeah, yeah” again and Shar said she really likes that. The next song was the Elvis cover “Suspicious minds” and after that they said goodbye for the second time today but we knew the would come back ‘cause they still hadn’t played that one song “Say what you want”. Then after a lot of cheering Texas came back and play the song while the crowd goes mad. After that they said goodbye for the last time.
Wow, we all agreed that this was a fantastic concert, Shar with her great voice and her way of pleasing the people, fantastic musicians, the best band!
Texas, we love you!!!
