Shar Misty eyed over Kyd's song
Texas star admits she was overcome watching her daughter in nativity play

TEXAS frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri has proved she really is a doting mum.

The fiery Scots singer has stormed back into the limelight over the past 12 months with a new album, two single releases and a series of high-profile gigs.

But her highlight of the year was not playing Live 8 or going top 10 with comeback track Getaway - it was seeing daughter Misty Kyd in a nativity play.

She said: "I got quite emotional. She was playing a sheep - and it was funny because on the morning she suddenly wanted to be a king.

"I had to tell her that you have to start small and build yourself up to being a king.

"She sang her heart out, and did all the words in sign language too.

"I got choked seeing her. I don't know if she's more of a singer or an actress - she's just my little girl."

Sharleen is having a quiet family Christmas in London, and this week is frantically trying to get everything organised.

But there could be problems if Santa Claus drops by - because three-year-old Misty is terrified of him.

Sharleen said: "At the school, the kids had to go up and introduce themselves to Father Christmas.

"All of a sudden Misty comes flying across three rows of people to me because she's so frightened of him.

"She's always thought he's a bit creepy. She will still get a stocking though."

Far from finding it a struggle to juggle motherhood with being a pop star, Sharleen feels she's in a better situation than most mums.

She said: "It's actually really easy for me - I'm not a normal working mother.

"I don't need to work every day of the year, and when I do want to take time out I can. And when I want to take my daughter with me to work, I can."

Texas were in Scotland this week to play EMAP Radio Events' Up Close At Christmas, which is sponsored by the Royal Bank Of Scotland.

It was their last gig before playing the Hogmanay Street party - after which the rockers will be releasing their new single, Sleep.

Funnyman Peter Kay wrote, directed, edited and appeared in the promo for the track - and Sharleen admitted he was quite a task master.

The 38-year-old said: "He was so anal on the day - everything had to be perfect.

"He was the best, and it wasn't so much that he was really funny, but just that he is so honest.

"He would phone me up in the middle of the night with some great idea.

"I could be rolling around with gorgeous men the whole time for my videos, but this was something new and different."

Sharleen hinted the next release after Sleep will be What About Us, the fourth track from Texas' sixth studio album, Red Book.

But despite having created such a stonking promo with Peter Kay, she doesn't feel under pressure for the new video. She said: "We never try and better it.

"We just try and come up with ideas to represent the song in a way people wouldn't expect
