Concert review
Vorst Nationaal, Brussels, Belgium - 18 March 2001

by Dirk Faes

Belgium loves you

After reading all the reviews (and having to add them myself :^) ) it finally was my turn to go the concert.

We couldn't be there early because the family needs some attention in these "Texas times". But at 17.45 we arrived there. The cue outside wasn't very long but I still couldn't find Bea and Kathy, shame on me. They were hiding under umbrellas and tucked in tick coats like most other people, not to stay incognito but to hide from the gallons of rain which had been fallen out of the sky for hours.
The doors opened at 18.30 and my wife and me went straight to our favorite spot (when we go together to a concert anyway). It's on a little platform not too far from the stage. It isn't one of the first rows but you have a perfect view over the entire stage there and the sound quality is always perfect there.

Reef started at 19.45, 15 minutes earlier then planned, and played about 45 minutes which was 44 minutes too long for me. I know that lesser known bands should get a chance too but the music was just too hard for me and not exactly my style.

Texas came onstage at 21.00 on the tones of Zero Zero floating into In Demand. They had the crowd going from the first moment on. My feet already started to hurt after Black Eyed Boy and Halo from jumping up and down so I wasn't mad at all when Shar decided to start talking a bit between the songs. As usual she was very funny and you could tell she was having fun herself when people started to shout things at her to which of course she HAD to reply :^)

I'm not gonna name all the songs they played, the setlist was the same as on the other concerts, Including my favorite cover Waterfalls during Tired of Being Alone (she must have read it on my website). Some other favorites of mine were Prayer For You and Guitar Song.

Shar started her famous Taxi story with "We had a day off in Brussels yesterday so I decided to have a massage...", someone (hi Bea :^) ) shouted something like "By Tony", Shar, Tony and the others started to laugh, and Shar said "Naaah, he isn't man enough for me". She said "Come on man defend yourself, you got a microphone yourself". So Tony stepped to his microphone and said, "How do you know?" to which Shar replied "My sister told me". It was just hilarious.

Another fantatsic moment came when between Insane and Tired Of Being Alone a guy shouted "I love youuuuuuuu" , to which Shar replied "do you love me or Eddie?" The shouter didn't reply, later we find out because he could only speak French and a few words English. So the shouter, Steve, had to wait and after Tired.. he was called up on stage for the already famous Pull Up To The Bumper act. Shar asked Steve a few questions but he didn't know what was happening at all. All he said when Shar talked about the "bumper" was "aaaaah sex". I disappeared on the floor laughing for a few seconds but then saw that Steve did a very good job dancing with Sharleen and the girls.

The encores with the backdrop were amazing, after Inner Smile was over people couldn't stop shouting "yeah yeah yeah" for a pretty long time, great to see all those arms go up in the air and hear 8000 people sing. Suspicious Minds was as fantastic as expected and of the the grand finale was Say What You Want.

When we were heading towards the car after the concert, people in the streets were still shouting "yeah yeah yeah", I loved it.

Thanks Texas for another great night.
