My TEXAS Year

Well as this year is coming to an end and Christmas is just around the corner, I sat down and got to thinking.....looking back on this past year and all the great experiences that I have had with Texas and you guys….it has been quite a ride!

Oct. 2005. Manchester, where it started for us.
Charlotte and I went to Manchester, the Apollo and saw Texas live in the UK for the first time, amazing. Sharleen arrived in good time before the concert and took time out to give autographs and have her picture taken with all the waiting fans – so the night went far and beyond of any expectation that we could possibly have had. We stood pretty close to the stage and the vibe was amazing!!! For me, that night will always be really special, being the first UK concert, meeting Sharleen before the concert and…..meeting Dirk for the first time.

May 2006 Back to the UK.
Charlotte and I first went to NEC Arena in Birmingham. The weather was totally crap, I had hoped to do a bit of sightseeing during the day, cause I lived in Birmingham when I was 5 so I thought it could have been fun to find my old school (which was right next to the Cadbury chocolate factory)….some things you just remember better then others….but because of the rain, we decided not to. Anyways the concert was great….for a sit down concert. In my opinion you CAN NOT sit at a TEXAS concert…..impossible! It was really great to hear some more songs from the Red Book album live and I think we were close to having heart attacks when Sharleen came in wearing her officer suit, well us and the rest of the audience…..
When Sharleen and Ally started “Crazy”….we were spellbound. Actually, we hadn’t heard the original version of Crazy, so for us, Texas’s version will always be the best, the one and only!
Back to London the next night – there was quite a queue at the Apollo (Hammersmith), when we arrived, but we still managed to get close to the stage once again. I sort of got the feeling that the London crowd is usually a tough crowd to please……but rest assure, this night was explosive!!! From the start we were all “play-dough” in the hands of Texas and we could have gone on and on all night. Sharleen and the guys seemed to give it 510 % and looked exhausted in the end and so were we, don’t think that we could walk or talk for 3 days, but it was so worth it!

May 2006. Jelling Festival Denmark.
A festival on a field out in the middle of nowhere.
By now we had brought Jeanette with us and she got “hooked” at the festival in Jelling.
It was a freezing Friday night and Texas were on at midnight but they arrived around 21.30 pm and off course the 3 Danes were there to greet them….okay, we greeted the cars they arrived in….
We managed to get 1 row and had a sign, thanking them for 20 years and asking for 20 more, modesty is such virtue…
We had been very nervous about how the audience would react to Texas. Mind you, Jelling is kind of Hillbilly country ….but all our anxiety was brought to shame. The crowd at Jelling festival loooooved Texas and 20.000 people went absolutely wild and we saw/heard the best version of “Crazy” …ever!

June – July 2006 Hyde Park Calling and G.A.Y. club.
Once again the 3 Danes were ready to go on tour. Unfortunally, a week before my right kneecap decided to go “walkabout” so I didn’t know if I was able to go or not…lucky me, my 2 fellow Danes decided that I was going no matter what. So on crutches and painkillers…..we were off to London again! Totally heat wave, but great!
So much has been said about the Hyde Park event and yes, Texas had all odds against them with the penalty shoot out, but we still had a great time in Hyde Park and we were singing our hearts out, just to make sure, that everyone around us knew who we came for!
Anyways back to the hotel for a little relaxing and icing down my knee…… should have iced someone else down! Jeanette and Charlotte decided to try all the colours of Bacardi Breezers, well you can guess the state they were in when it was time to hit the G.A.Y club…..need I say more?!
G.A.Y. club was really intimate. It was like 01.30 am when Texas came on stage, a stage that was almost out in the crowd and there was a very festive vibe. People had been dancing and drinking so the mood was…festive! It is properly one of our favourite Texas concerts, mainly because it was a small venue and it felt so intimate and the whole mood was kind of intense. Some of us waited for Texas outside and got a chance to say a quick hello. A fabulous weekend!

August 2006 Colmar and Avenches.
Our summer vacation was meant to be in Slovenia and it was, but we ended up taking a detour to Switzerland and France….. What a detour!!!! Colmar – met up with familiar and new faces! Colmar was very emotional in a way. You got a sense of the “bond” that there seems to be between the band and the fans. A lot of TEXANS had put Texas in their summer vacation plans and there were so many of us!!...and it was so awesome! I think when Sharleen sang PYAAM in the end, we all got a bit teary eyed….cause, well its such a beautiful song and a great summer with festivals was coming to an end and the whole evening was as mentioned earlier, a bit emotional.
Next morning Charlotte and I left Colmar early, had to go to the airport in Zurich and pick up Jeanette, who was joining for the Avenches concert. Again meeting up with everyone in Avenches was great. We all had 1 row together with the Red Fans from about noon….a long wait, but so worth the wait.
So, waiting half a day, having to listen to a zombie sing, French/Canadian something band and finally yes, there is a God, Texas came on and rocked the place down and the fans went ballistic! I heard that some people thought that the crowd was a bit reserved but from where we were….well we were having a party! Don´t think that our feet touched the ground at any point. A great way to end the summer!

Oct. 2006 Night of the Proms!
Low and behold – it ain’t over yet. The Proms was something else! Experiencing Sharleen in this kind of concert/show was really a treat!
I love Texas just the way they are, but seeing them experiment with something new is also great and well, we all know that Sharleens voice is beyond amazing, so to hear her sing Texas songs with a symphony orchestra blew us away, it was unbelievable! Hearing Sharleen sing PYAAM was very emotional for me…..and trust me, I don´t like to cry in public, but I was caught a bit of guard ….. a beautiful performance!
The whole weekend was so great because all the fans got together and had a great time before, during and after the concerts!

Okay – call me sentimental, but I truly had a great Texas year and just wanted to let you all know that, since you are responsible for it!

To Texas:
For so many years now, your songs have done wonders for my heart and soul (not to mention my dancing feet) and for this, I thank you!

To Dirk:
You started all this – bringing the whole Texas family together! I appreciate all the heart and the hard work that you put into TID and the fan gatherings! Thank you!!

To my Texan family:
Thank you for a fantastic year! You have given us some great memories! See you all next tour!

I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
