Say What You Want
from Worldpop by Jordan Paramor - October 2000
After a spell out of the limelight, Texas are back with their fantastic new single, In Demand. worldpop gives lead singer Sharleen Spiteri the chance to have her say on …
The new single from Texas, In Demand.
Sharleen: We wrote it with Dallas Austin who's also written for people like TLC, Madonna and Michael Jackson. Johnny and I went out to Miami and wrote and recorded it out there. I got to do a bit of travelling, but it's not like I don't do enough already!
Alan Rickman appearing in the In Demand video.
Sharleen: I just called him up and asked him through a mutual friend. He said that he'd love to do it. We did tango lessons and everything together and I loved it! We had a good laugh. Alan is someone that I've respected for a long time. I think he's a great actor and he always does movies for the right reasons. I especially believe that after meeting him.
Acting vs music.
Sharleen: I would like to give it a go. I haven't really thought about it too much, but everyone else has thought about it for me! However, if something unbelievable came along I'd be like, 'Ooh, ooh, I'm interested!'. I've been offered some really serious stuff including a vampire role! As soon as something comes along that I think that I want to do really badly, I will make the time. We'll just have to wait and see what happens!
Growing out her luscious locks.
Sharleen: To be honest I didn't consciously think, 'Oh God, everyone's copying my haircut, I must change it'. When we were making the new album I was in the studio every day and I was being lazy, so I just didn't cut it. I decided that I'd had my short hair for such a long time it would be nice to have a change. It's a bit of different look for me, and it's quite good because no one really recognises me with my long hair, which is great.
Touring with Texas … and Steps?
Sharleen: We've got a tour in February. Obviously we want to put on a big show and we're really excited about it, but we haven't started rehearsing for it yet. I haven't been to many good gigs lately because there haven't been that many people on tour that I've wanted to see. Steps are touring soon and to be honest I think their music is really good, but I don't see what their difference is between a record and a live concert. Whereas when you go and see a band like Texas there's a big difference because we go on stage and we plug our instruments in and we play.
