Concert review
Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam, The Netherlands - 25 March 2001

By Klaas Sijbesma

On the 25th of March Texas were finally back in Amsterdam after 4 years (and 4 days to be exactly). This time no Paradiso for them, but the new Heineken Music Hall. Infact Texas were the 2nd act to play there after The Deftones kicked off the monday before. This hall is especially for build for those acts who have a huge following but not big enough to play for an 10.000 audience or larger. So it can hold a maximum of 5.500 people. Which is for me just good enough, but anyway for some time it looked like even this Hall would be too big for Texas, since the ticket sales weren't going fast. But a few weeks before the show it turened out to be SOLD OUT thanks to the massive airplay of Inner Smile.

The fact that Inner Smile was a huge hit in Holland made me shiver with the idea that a great part of the crowd would be screaming teeny's. But when I entered the Hall I feld some releave, since I only saw people of my age and around. And I'm 32!!!! Should this mean that most Dutch people still adore Texas for what they've created for us back in 1989??? I do think so.

When you enter a concerthall and you've to wait before the final headliner is on stage, it's always nice to look around. And while doing that I found out that you can't put Texasfans into boxes. There is a very diverted audience. Mainly couples but also a lot of Gay's I spotted. But they all have incommon that they love Texasmusic! And I was very curious to hear the music again. It had been 9 months since the Werchter Rock Festival in Belgum that I did see see them, and to be honest with you ....that wasn't the best Texas concert that I've ever seen. When you follow a band and you've been to concerts of all the tours, you have your favorite period. Well and mine is the Ricks Road time. I'll never forget the power that blew of that stage back then! But also the White On Blonde tour, showed us that Texas is abel to grow during a tour. And the big gigs at the end of that tour made us ready for more big venues. After doing some Hush concerts I feld that this wasn't the same Texas that I used to adore. Now must I say that The Hush is my least fav. Texas album, it's all to ... well you know. And above all what the h*** is Mark One doing on stage??? Texas doesn't need an DJ!

But anyway we were talking about Amsterdam. Well the show is just PERFECT! And maybe is that good, but this strictly directed show doesn't make space for any improvisation at all. Even if it looks like Sharleen is doing it when she tells her cab story or when she pulls someone on the stage....it's all in the game! But hey you must trust me when I say that I had a great evening! The only thing that I did hear were brilliant songs sang by a brilliant woman called Sharleen and her band! great to hear Prayer For You in the acoustic version again, thrilled to see people clapping and singing along I Don't Want A Lover and at the end going absolutely crazy with Say What You Want. But for most people was Inner Smile the highlight together with Suspicious Minds. And the dancing with Patrick who wanted Sharleen to suck his cock .....well she did it alright, but Pull Up To The Bumber...worst cover ever done by Texas!

Anyway the crowd adored her at the end...so she must have made some new fans! I can disciribe it the best with the following situation. A girl and boy are walking in front of me when going outside, and the boy said to the girl: I also knew that last song (Say What You Want red), didn't knew it was Texas though.
